An Introduction to the Five Habitats of the Marshlands Conservancy

It is wonderful to walk through this natural environment; to feel and smell the air; to see, touch, and hear the sights and sounds of the overwhelmingly, powerful, complex, and mysterious forces of nature. Attachment to nature becomes deeper, fuller, and so much more exciting when you have an understanding of the biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment. It is like after many times just glancing at the cover of a book, then actually reading the pages inside it for the very first time!

Download iNaturalist, the Facebook for nature nerds! Post your nature findings, help others identify nature, see what nature has been found in your neighborhood, and keep a life list of observations. iNaturalist, is a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society.

For real-time identification of all life forms use iNaturalist’s Seek app.

The Badges feature is great for kids because it makes every nature walk a scavenger hunt. Earn badges for spotting different types of birds, amphibians, plants, and fungi, and participate in monthly observation challenges.
