Needed with Westchester County Parks, Recreation, and Conservation
The Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation is looking for an enthusiastic naturalist with a love of educating others at Marshlands Conservancy in Rye NY.
Under supervision of the Curator, in this position you will:
• Develop and lead interactive, educational programs that encourage a love of nature and the outdoors for school groups, summer camp, scout groups, and the general public.
• Communicate your knowledge of nature ecology and conservation effectively with with all age groups providing a positive experience for all participants.
• Assist the Curator with trail maintenance and groundskeeping tasks, and help with daily operations of the nature center.
• Collaborate with the curator in creating educational exhibits and displays.
• Participate in seasonal field work and research with fellow conservation staff members
• Work with curator on operational planning.
• Do other related work as required.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a love of nature, a willingness to work outdoors, be self-motivated, be able to do moderate physical labor, and possess the ability to communicate effectively.
Experience with
ArcMap/GIS, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, trail cameras, data entry, iNaturalist, and social media outreach.
Preference will be given to candidates with a proven history of leadership, environmental education, and research, yet all applications are welcome. Enthusiasm and curiosity are a must!
Applicants should have their own transportation.
Hours/Salary
The Naturalist/Educator position work schedule is Tuesday-Saturday from 8:30 am to 4 pm. Salary is currently $18/hour.
